Josefína Kablíková, personality of Vrchlabí in the 19th century
Limberská, Jana ; Vlnas, Vít (advisor) ; Louda, Jiří (referee)
In my Diploma thesis I wanted to explore a theme which is close to my region. I decided to write about Josefina Kablíková, a modern and progressive woman of the 19th century. Josefina was an emancipated woman with a very intriguing life story. She was one of a few women botanists of her period. At first, I will present her own biography and a biography of her husband, Vojtěch Kablík. Vrchlabí in the 19th century and its specification is described. The following chapter is devoted to Josefina Kablíková as a botanist. Her botanical research far surpassed the region of Krkonoše. She became famous for her gathering of the Krkonoše flora. Even several botanical species are named after her. Another section illustrates the scientific research of Vojtěch Kablík, a pharmacist and a chemist in Vrchlabí. The last section concerns the Mánes family, who were frequent guests in the house of Kablíkovi. A large number of Mánes's drawings, paintings and portraits came into existence depicting Vrchlabí, its surroundings and Kablíkovi themselves. The aim of this Diploma thesis is to explain significance as well as the life story of the Kablíkovi couple in the context of the period and the region.
Journal Dílo. Its form and meaning in 1902 - 1914
Švejstilová, Michaela ; Prahl, Roman (advisor) ; Rakušanová, Marie (referee)
This work analyses the art journal "Dílo", published monthly by the "Jednota umělců výtvarných" society. The work focuses on the time period between 1902 and 1914. Based on the examination of the annual editions, this study characterizes the journal in general and presents its focus and main themes covered by the individual issues. The art scene around the journal is portrayed as well. The analysis of the journal is divided into three chronological time periods; the same form of analysis and discussion is followed in order to allow the comparison of individual sections. The thesis positions the journal into a historical, cultural and social context while describing other art journals, art societies or short author's presentations for other journals. The relation between "Dílo" and the journal "Volné směry" published by the art society "Mánes" is briefly encompassed as well, yet this theme is not the official subject examined in this bachelor thesis. Presenting the first analysis of "Dílo" (in the years 1902 - 1914), the significant art journal from the beginning of 20th century, the primary sources are the subject of examination. The Church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague-Karlín
Klinerová, Adéla ; Macek, Petr (advisor) ; Prahl, Roman (referee)
This bachelor thesis is presenting The Church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague- -Karlín. The historical and urban development of Karlín is depicted in the introductory chapter, including ambitions of the community for its own church administration. Following parts of the thesis are dedicated to architectural projects for the church and to the progress of the construction, which is framed on the basis of a few significant events. The decoration of the church, which is divided into two periods, is also a part of this thesis. Especially painting and sculptural realizations are included. Applied art is included only marginally. Important sources to compile this thesis were The Chronicle of Karlín and its parish church, The Records of The Union for the decoration of the church of St. Cyril and Method in Prague-Karlín and architectural projects. Recent restoration of the church is the main theme of this publication: Karlín. Chrám sv. Cyrila a Metoděje v Praze-Karlíně, Kostelní Vydří 2007 and also because of that the restoration is not one of the themes of this thesis.
